| Case Search |
| |
| |
1. How do I find a case in WebCivil Local?
You may search for a case in one of four ways:
| |
Index Search - search by entering the Index Number of a case.
You may either enter the full index number (e.g. CV-000044-06/AU) using the drop-down lists to
select the Case Type (e.g. CV) and Court (e.g. AU) OR you may simply enter the index number in
the format 44-06 (please be aware that if you do not specify a court, multiple cases may be found,
as each court uses the same number sequence, so it is possible to encounter the same index number
in multiple courts). You may choose to sort your search results by Court (the default), Index
Number, Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name or Appearance Date and your search results can be displayed
in either HTML (the default) or PDF format.
|
| |
Party Search - enables you to search on the name of one of the parties.
You can select the party as Plaintiff, Defendant or Either plaintiff or defendant. Please remember
that most courts enter an individual’s name as Last Name, First Name (e.g. Smith, John). To make
your search faster, you may wish to limit your search to one or more Courts, Year of Filing, or
just to Open (Active) cases or those with Future Appearances on the court’s calendar. You may
choose to sort your search results by Court (the default), Index Number, Defendant Name, Plaintiff
Name or Appearance Date and your search results can be displayed in either HTML (the default) or
PDF format.
|
| |
Attorney/Firm Search - allows you to look for cases for a particular Attorney or Law
Firm. Enter the name of the attorney or firm and select whether you are looking for cases in
which they represent the Plaintiff, the Defendant or Either. To make your search faster, you may
wish to limit your search to one or more Courts, Year of Filing, or just to Open (Active) cases or
those with Future Appearances on the court’s calendar. Finally, you may choose to sort your search
results by Court (the default), Index Number, Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name or Appearance Date and
your search results can be displayed in either HTML (the default) or PDF format.
|
| |
Judge Search - finds all cases for a particular Judge.
Enter the name (first and last) of the Judge. To make your search faster, you may wish to limit your
search to one or more Courts, Year of Filing, or just to Open (Active) cases or those with Future
Appearances on the court’s calendar. Finally, you may choose to sort your search results by Court
(the default), Index Number, Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name or Appearance Date and your search results
can be displayed in either HTML (the default) or PDF format. |
|
| |
| |
2. Why can’t I find my case when I search using the name of the Defendant?
You should verify the spelling of the name which you entered. Please remember that most courts enter
an individual’s name as Last Name, First Name (e.g. Smith, John). You should also check that you have
selected Defendant (the search defaults to the name of the Plaintiff). |
| |
| |
3. I am involved in a Landlord & Tenant case - can I see the details here?
Landlord & Tenant cases are available in WebCivil Local with the exception of cases in the Housing Courts in
New York City (Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens and Richmond Counties). To view pending cases in those courts
please visit our WebHousing site by clicking here. |
| |
| Court Calendar Search |
| |
| |
1. How can I find court calendar information?
You may view the calendar for either a specific Court Part or a Judge/Part. Please enter a Court,
then select either a Court Part or a Judge from the drop-down lists and press Find Calendar. You may
select any of the hyperlinked search results to view the corresponding calendar, and then click on the
caption for any of the cases displayed to view the details of that case. |
| |
| Attorney/Firm Calendar Search |
| |
| |
1. Can I produce a calendar of my law firm’s cases?
Simply enter part of or your firm’s entire name into the search field and select whether you are searching
on all the words you entered or the exact phrase. Then click on Search Calendar. Select one of
the options from the search results to generate a county-by-county calendar listing of your firm’s pending
appearances. |

1. Which browsers do you currently support?
We support the following browsers:
| | Firefox version 3.0 and above |
| | Internet Explorer versions 7.x and above |
| | Safari version 3.0 and above |
You may encounter problems using older versions of these browsers and we strongly recommend that
you upgrade to the latest versions. Please note that we cannot guarantee that you will be able to

| |
| |
2. Why is it that when I click on the links for detail screens nothing happens?
Many of the screens open in a new window - if you have any kind of pop-up blocker, this may prohibit
them from opening correctly. We recommend that you disable your pop-up blocker when using the site. |
