1. Which courts are included in WebCivil Supreme?
WebCivil Supreme contains cases from the Civil Supreme Courts in all 62 counties of New York State
(Albany, Allegany, Broome, Bronx, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Clinton,
Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Genesee, Greene, Hamilton,
Herkimer, Jefferson, Kings, Lewis, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Nassau, New York,
Niagara, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Oswego, Otsego, Putnam, Queens, Rensselaer,
Richmond, Rockland, St. Lawrence, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben,
Suffolk, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Warren, Washington, Westchester, Wayne, Wyoming and
Yates). |

2. Are all cases displayed?
Information is available for all cases except for those filed under Article 81 of the Mental
Hygiene law, or those which have been sealed. |

3. How do you obtain your information?
The information in WebCivil Supreme is entered by the court staff into their case management
systems, then electronically transferred to WebCivil Supreme. Decisions - if available - are
scanned or uploaded to our database by the court staff. E-filed documents are extracted from
the New York State Courts E-Filing (NYSCEF) system.
Note: if you believe that data has been entered erroneously you should notify the court directly,
since we are unable to make any changes.

4. How often is the data updated?
The following counties are updated four times daily - Bronx, Dutchess, Erie, Kings, Nassau, New York,
Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk and Ulster. All others are updated once a day.

5. How far back in time does the data go?
This varies by county. Because each county added its entire active caseload when it began using the
current case management system, there may be cases which began earlier than the following dates:
Nassau (1979-1980), Westchester and Suffolk (1981), Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Rockland (1983),
Bronx, Kings, New York and Queens (1986), Erie and Richmond (1988). The remaining counties were
added in 2002. |

1. How do I find a case in WebCivil Supreme?
You may search for a case in one of four ways:

Index Search - search by entering the Index Number of a case. Please be sure to use
the correct format which is NNNNNN/YYYY where NNNNNN is the index number, containing up to six
digits e.g. 123456 and YYYY is the four digit year e.g. 2006). You may limit your search to one
or more Counties by selecting from the drop-down list of county names (remember, most counties
use the same numbering scheme so it is possible to encounter the same index number in multiple
courts). Finally, you may choose to sort your search results by Index Number (the default),
Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name, County or Appearance Date.

Party Search - enables you to search on the name of one of the parties. You can select
the party as Defendant, Plaintiff or Either defendant or plaintiff. Please remember that most
courts enter an individual’s name as Last Name, First Name (e.g. Smith, John). To make your search
faster you may limit your search to one or more Counties by selecting from the drop-down list of
county names and you can also select a specific year in which the case was filed to further limit
your search. By default only those cases which are Open are returned – if you wish to see
closed cases please select All as your Case Status. All cases matching the criteria you entered
will be returned – if you wish to only view those with a future appearance on the calendar set
Return only Cases with Future Appearances to Yes. Finally, you may choose to sort your search results
by Index Number (the default), Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name, County or Appearance Date.

Attorney Search - allows you to look for cases for a particular Attorney or Law Firm.
Enter the name of the attorney or firm and select whether you are looking for cases in which
they represent the plaintiff, the defendant or either. To make your search faster you may limit
your search to one or more Counties by selecting from the drop-down list of county names and you
can also select a specific year in which the case was filed to further limit your search. By
default only those cases which are Open are returned – if you wish to see closed cases please
select All as your Case Status. All cases matching the criteria you entered will be returned –
if you wish to only view those with a future appearance on the calendar set Return only Cases with
Future Appearances to Yes. Finally, you may choose to sort your search results by Index Number (the
default), Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name, County or Appearance Date.

Justice Search - allows you to look for cases for a particular Supreme Court Justice. Enter
the name (first and last) of the Justice. To make your search faster you may limit your search to one
or more Counties by selecting from the drop-down list of county names and you can also select a specific
year in which the case was filed to further limit your search. By default only those cases which are
Open are returned - if you wish to see closed cases please select All as your Case Status. All cases
matching the criteria you entered will be returned - if you wish to only view those with a future
appearance on the calendar set Return only Cases with Future Appearances to Yes. Finally, you may choose
to sort your search results by Index Number (the default), Defendant Name, Plaintiff Name, County or
Appearance Date.

2. I know a case was filed with the County Clerk – why doesn’t it show up?
Even if an index number has been purchased only those cases for which a Request for Judicial
Intervention (RJI) has been filed are available online.
Note: subscribers to the eTrack case tracking service can choose to manually add cases for
which an RJI has not yet been filed to their account. |

3. I entered an index number but it says No cases found - why is that?
Please make sure that you are entering the index number in the correct format, which is
NNNNNN/YYYY where NNNNNN is a 6 digit number and YYYY is the 4 digit year of original filing.
You may omit any leading zeroes (e.g. 012345/2006 may be entered as 12345/2006). Remember
that only those cases for which a Request for Judicial Intervention (RJI) has been filed will
be displayed. Please remember too that the only cases available through this website are
those in Civil Supreme Court. |

4. Why can’t I find my case when I search using the name of the Defendant?
You should verify the spelling of the name which you entered. Please remember that most courts
enter an individual’s name as Last Name, First Name (e.g. Smith, John). You should also check
that you have selected Defendant (the search defaults to the name of the Plaintiff). |

5. My case is in New York City Civil Court – can I see the details here?
The only cases available through this website are those in Civil Supreme Court. For information
on cases in Local Civil Court please click here. |

1. How can I find court calendar information?
You may view the calendar for either a specific Court Part or a Judge/Part. Please enter a
County, then select either a Court Part or a Justice from the drop-down lists and press Find
Calendar. You may select any of the hyperlinked search results to view the corresponding
calendar, and then click on the caption for any of the cases displayed to view the details
of that case. |

1. Can I produce a calendar of my law firm’s cases?
Simply enter part of or your firm’s entire name into the search field and select whether you
are searching on all the words you entered or the exact phrase. Then click on Search Calendar.
Select one of the options from the search results to generate a county-by-county calendar
listing of your firm’s pending appearances. |

1. How can I search for a scanned decision?
The fastest way to search is by using the index number of the case (if you wish you may
narrow this down to a particular county). Alternatively you may perform a text search
for specific names or expressions which appear in decisions. |

2. Why can’t I find the decision in my case?
Please bear in mind that not all courts scan all of their decisions (some may not scan
any). This is determined by each individual court, and may also be impacted by factors
such as protecting sensitive personal information (for example, decisions in matrimonial
cases are not posted online). Note that it may take several days before a decision is
made available online. |

3. Are any documents other than decisions available online?
Documents which have been electronically filed through the NYSCEF system may be
viewed by clicking on the Show eFiled Documents button in the Case Detail screen.
Note: documents which have been marked as Secure or Sealed are not viewable. |

4. Where can I obtain documents if they are not available online?
You should contact the office of the County Clerk in the county where the case is being heard.
A list of addresses and telephone numbers may be found by clicking on Resources,
in the County Clerk Information section.

| Troubleshooting |

1. Which browsers do you currently support?
We support the following browsers:

You may encounter problems using older versions of these browsers and we strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest
versions. Please note that we cannot guarantee that you will be able to access WebCivil Supreme using a handheld device such
as a Blackberry or web-enabled cell phone. |

2. Why is it that when I click on the links for detail screens nothing happens?
Many of the screens open in a new window - if you have any kind of pop-up blocker, this may
prohibit them from opening correctly. We recommend that you disable your pop-up blocker when
using the site. |

3. I am an attorney and the information you are showing for me is incorrect - how
can I change it?
Each court maintains its own dictionary of attorney/firm information. Contact the court directly to have
your information changed for that court.
This is not the same information that is contained as part of attorney registration. To change your
